Nokia 6233 - You've got the power!!!

 Nokia 6233 - Introduction :

Nokia 6233 with a candy bar form factor is a medium sized phone with lots of nice features. Nokia 6233 is one of the current handsets in the Indian market which feaures 3G at a very affordable price costing around 7100/- INR. This classic styled model features a 240 x 320 QVGA TFT display screen, great stereo speakers (two), a two mega pixel camera (in landscape mode) which is also capable of capturing VGA (640x480) video recording at 15 frames per second, microSD card slot with hot swap. The phone surely packs some nice features.

Its Rivals:

Its main rivals with in Nokia are Nokia 6300 and Nokia 5310 Express Music. But 6233 comfortably beats them as it features two stereo speakers, VGA Video recording which the above models and even the Nokia N73 doesn't have. In addition Nokia 6300 and Nokia 5310 don't have 3G.

Nokia 6233 - Music Edition:

Like Nokia N-70 this phone comes with a slight variant called Nokia 6233 Music edition which has the following difference;

1. Music Edition Phones come with a 512 mb memory card while the ordinary version comes just with 128 mb memory card.
2. 6233 - M comes with a music stand.
3. Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) - Nokia 6233 M features A2DP which allows music to listen in Bluetooth headsets and Music stand. (There are some unconfirmed reports that Nokia 6233 ordinary version also supports A2DP in its latest firmware)

So, these features don't seem to convincing enough to go for the music edition. Instead going for the ordinary version is a vice choice.

    Its Build:

Nokia 6233 has a plastic body with a shiny metallic frame. It has dimensions of 108 x 46 x 18 mm and a weight 110 g. That surely doesn’t necessarily make it the lightest device around, but when held in hand it feels very comfortable and you hardly notice the weight. The plastic give it a bit of a cheap look but once you get used to it you start to realize that it’s the small details that make it look classy. There is also a silver version which also might appeal to some of the consumers. The classic shape and construction do not make the phone dull in any case – the more appropriate word to describe it would be – discrete.

    Performance:

Living upto Nokia's name the reception quality of the handset was good and the voice of the other person in the phone was always loud and clear.
Listening to the sound on the stereo loudspeakers was a very pleasant experience since they are one of the best that we’ve seen in a mobile phone. There is a certain presence of a bass element in it which is rarely the case with mobile phone speakers and the sound itself is clear and has no audible distortion whatsoever even at the highest volume level.

    Camera:

Nokia 6233 is equipped with a 2 megapixel camera. The maximum resolution is 1600 x 1200 pixels. Lower resolution like 1280 x 960, 640 x 480, 320x240 and 160 x 120 and as well as three types of compression quality is available, too. Furthermore the camera offers 8x digital zoom, which only makes digital crops of the original large image, so when you take pictures with the zoom used, you actually get a smaller resolution picture output. There is also a shortcut key for camera and shutter release button on the right side of the phone.

    Video Recording:

An exciting feature of the camera is the option to record video clips at VGA (640 x 480 pixels) resolution. Video clips are recorded in the .3gp format at a speed of 15 frames per second. In video recording mode you can again apply color effects and adjust the white balance manually or automatically.
For the videos taken by a mobile phone the VGA resolution alone is an impressive feature. There aren’t many other available phones that can shoot videos in this resolution. But in reality it turns out that for such high resolution the 15 frames per seconds are not enough. The videos look jerkier than the lower resolution videos with the same frame rate. If you want to shoot in VGA resolution with 30 frames per second then you must go for the Nokia N93.

    Bottom Line:

Nokia 6233 impressed me from the very beginning. The phone has a very nice design, although a bit on the conservative side, I must admit. It doesn’t have the looks of a very expensive device.
